Photo ID Systems- Printer Ribbons and Cards
Badge Printer Ribbons & Laminates — Selecting the correct badge printer ribbon depends on your desired badge design and printer configuration. For a single sided direct to card printer, select a YMCKO ribbon for printing in full color, or YMCK for a reverse transfer printer. You can also use YMCKO/YMCK to duplex print full color both sides. For duplex printers it is common to print the back in black using a YMCKOK (DTC) or YMCKK (RT)ribbon. Tip: If you have a single sided printer, in addition to a YMCKO ribbon, purchase a K panel or KO panel ribbon to batch print an important statement on the backside of the badge.
Card Media — You have several options in card media. Standard PVC card media is ideal for wallet identification cards or badges that are not used in swiped card readers. The standard PVC media is the most susceptible to badge cracks, fading and surface wear. To extend the life of a badge, we suggest upgrading the standard PVC card media to "composite" PVC card media. This even applies to your magnetic stripe, RFID, smart card and contactless card media. They are all available in composite PVC card media. That is if you ask for it! Composite card media has polyester added to the PVC increasing durability when laminated and slotted. The most common format is 60/40 or 60% PVC/40% Polyester. Tip: You can not order pre-slotted card media as they are not compatible with badge printers.
Custom Printed Card Media — The number one reason to order custom printed PVC card media is to print the badge back statement so only a single sided printer is required. For those that print hundreds of badges a month, pre-printed media offers great savings in time and consumables costs. For those that have strict branding requirements, you may want to consider having the front pre-printed. Dye-sublimation printers can not color match or print "exactly" the same on every badge. They will have slight imperfections from time to time, however for most projects full color dye-sublimation printing is considered to be very high quality. Custom printing is also required if a signature strip or security seal image is needed. Tip: If you can not think of something valuable to print on the back of your badge, ask your CEO!
ID Badge Security Features — If fraudulent badge reproduction is a concern, there are many security options to consider. The most economical method that we recommend is creating a unique branded image that is then printed in a multi-pattern format directly on the badge media and is very difficult to reproduce. These images can be ordered in small quantities (500 or more). If you need ultra-secure badge features please contact an eXpress badging specialist. We do not ever recommend using "stock" security images that are available on the market. This is a bad idea from those who do not know security! Tip: Treat your security imaged badge media as if they are thousand dollar bills. Lock them up and make sure you implement strict inventory policies and procedures. It is not a bad idea to order them with a sequential "unique" number. Now we're talking security!
